The Japanese Swallowtail Angel is an uncommon angel, and is not often seen in the U.S. aquarium trade. The female Swallowtail has a dusky grey upper half, a white belly, and its tail is edged in black. It has a white bar with black borders behind its eyes and a yellow upper back and dorsal fin. The Swallowtail is primarily a planktivore, and is an excellent fish for a reef type aquarium. Feed this fish a balanced meaty diet, that includes plankton, mysis shrimp, sponges, and prepared angel diet. Provide it with live rock in the aquarium for grazing and hiding.
